An establishment of a common destination entitled  ‘Congo Basin Destination‘ was one of resolutions of the recently concluded Congo Basin Conclave. Despite the fact that the Congo Basin Countries possess enormous potential to boost ecotourism for development, the region is listed among the lest visited places on the Continent.

The Congo Basin, often referred to as the world’s second lung, faces a multitude of environmental challenges.Recognizing the urgent need for collective action, the U.S. Embassy in Kinshasa hosted the Congo Basin Conclave, which recently concluded after a productive three days of discussions from April 22nd to April 24th, 2024.

This first-of-its-kind event brought together a diverse group of stakeholders from across the region, including representatives from government agencies, civil society organizations, indigenous groups, and the private sector. The conclave aimed to foster collaboration in developing sustainable solutions for the environmental and economic well-being of the Congo Basin. Kwafrika Travel was both among the participating organisation as well as the implementing Partners. Kwafrika Travel handled the logistics related to the travels and accommodation of more than 111 experts from 5 countries (DR Congo, Congo-Brazzaville, Gabon, Equatorial Guinée & Cameroon) as they attend the event in DR Congo.

We were aware of the fact that infrastructure for tourism in the Congo Basin is still developing. A Congo Basin ecotourism masterplan will be developed encompassing the mapping of tourist sites in the region, the main road corridors to develop as well as other actions to take to make sure the Congo Basin Destination is a success.  Visit the Congo Basin Destination to be be among the few people who visited the region.
